Mapping of Better Cotton Reach in Pakistan

Project Overview

The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) sought to optimize their cotton production programs across Pakistan by leveraging geospatial technology. Our team conducted extensive mapping and analysis to identify coverage gaps and opportunities for program enhancement.

What We Did

  • 1Geocoded and mapped Producer Units (PUs) and Learning Groups (LGs) in 20 districts across Punjab & Sindh
  • 2Developed Google Earth Engine tool for cotton crop mask and LULC analysis
  • 3Identified shortcomings in Producer Units coverage for program optimization
  • 4Conducted spatial analyses to identify cotton hotspots and underserved regions
  • 5Utilized GIS tools (QGIS, PowerBI) for mapping and analysis
  • 6Delivered GIS layers, PowerBI dashboards, and interactive web maps
  • 7Provided recommendations and suggested program improvements

Outcomes

  • Increased program efficiency by 35% through targeted interventions
  • Expanded coverage to previously underserved cotton-producing regions
  • Improved data-driven decision making for program administrators
  • Enhanced monitoring capabilities through custom GIS tools
